Well, we apparently just did the most Southern California thing ever and canceled school on account of rain. To be fair, the flash flooding around here can get pretty crazy.
Did our school’s sexual harassment training last night. Did you know every instance of sexual harassment includes saying the word “booty”? According to the quiz answers, at least.
Also the lady said “infers” when she meant “implies.”
This thing might need an update.
My five year old is demanding mac and cheese for breakfast. Parents - how important is delineating “breakfast food” for you? I love mac and cheese but my stomach is turning just thinking about eating it first thing in the morning!

Me: Oh, really.
5yo: Yes, this is serious.
Me: Okay, Queen Princess Majesty.
5yo: PRINCESS.
Me: That’s what I said.
Husband: Don’t upset Her Majesty Princess Queen!
Me: Queen Princess Majesty!!
5yo: My old parents are…
Me: Wait, what happened to your old parents?
5yo: Oh, they’re still alive.
Husband: Who are your new parents?
5yo, looking confused: That’s you guys! [beat] I’m going to be a grown up when my sister dies.
Me and Husband - both turn slowly to look at 10yo.
My daughter (age 10) asked me yesterday: “What started World War I?”
Me, in the middle of a detailed book about WWI: “Oh, yeah, this is my time to shine!”
I explain in minor detail the relations and sparks that set it off for a good 5-10 min.
Her: “I…meant World War II.”
Oh.
My cautious girl got brave enough to hold a sparkler! Happy 4th of July!
Checked on my school room yesterday and it looks great - new paint and carpet - except all the furniture from a different room is stored in there (mine is in the hall). Ha. My dream last night: we had to start school and none of the rooms had been put back in order. 😱
Got to share Into the Woods with my 10yo last night! It was a fantastic production and cast. Loved every minute of it and so did she. Bonus: now we can watch the Bernadette Peters recording. (I was saving it until we had a chance to see it live.)
Well, it’s happened. My daughter’s math has gone beyond my memory of how to do it. Apparently long division is the divider line of what I remember.
Just participated in my first ever graduation as a faculty member. Amazing. Simultaneously thrilled and excited for the graduates and heartbroken to not be teaching them anymore. But I think I need to get a doctorate because the robes/hats/stoles are way cooler.
This balloon has been hanging out on our ceiling since March 14.
4yo: Can I eat something?
Me: It’s almost dinner time, let’s wait.
4yo: But just a little bread? Me: No, when you eat this close to dinner you don’t eat dinner.
4yo: [getting mad] Then I’m not hungry!
Me: Good, then you don’t need to eat right now.
4yo: [defiantly] Fine! Then I’ll eat dinner!
Me: I…think I actually won that round, my little would-be dictator.
